The way speed dating works is each person has a few minutes to chat and get to know someone else before being moved to the next person, to get to know them. This works very well in a corporate setting, because it gives everyone a chance to have a quick one-on-one with someone new.

Page 1 includes the lesson image and page 2 includes the reading. Spread the readings on several tables or desks around your classroom or library. Start a timer on your mobile device and tell students to find something to read just page 2. Since they are reading articles rather than books, give them less time try 1—2 minutes. When the buzzer goes, have them find another reading topic. After about 15—20 minutes, ask your students to go back to the reading that they were most interested in.

Give them enough time to read the entire page. You may find that many of the students want to read about the same person, place, thing, or event.

Filed under Pagadian City The Philippines, being a country archipelago of islands and seas, have naturally wonderful beaches, some of which are famous the world over. Beaches like Puerto Galera, Boracay, and the various beaches in Cebu rake in tourists from around the world all year round because of their pristine and cool blue waters and fine, white-sand shores. However, if one will just look around more, they will find that there are other less-known but equally beautiful beach spots in other parts of the Philippines.

In Pagadian, in particular, there are beaches and islands that will make one believe that there is such a thing as a secluded paradise on Earth. A nice place to start would be the Dao-Dao Islands some seven to ten minutes away from the seaport, when riding a motorboat.

Can’t find what you are looking for? That means a new batch of students to get to know, students who need to be made comfortable in your classroom, and who need to get to know each other. And how to accomplish this? The Trouble with Most Icebreakers I planned to create a nice big post with dozens of icebreaker ideas you could choose from. They require students to take massive social risks with people they barely know. So many of the icebreakers I found asked students to publicly share some kind of personal information.

But to most kids—especially once they get into the middle and high school range—being different is the worst thing you can be. No one really gets to know anyone. So I have scrapped my plan to curate good icebreakers from the Internet. What I like about all of them is that they get students talking, but require very little social risk. I should add that I take no credit for inventing these games. I have no idea where I picked them up, but they are not original to me.

This game keeps students moving and talking, and it builds a sense of belonging and community in your classroom.
